My work records the lives of different individuals who are dealing with or have dealt with a variety of emotions. Through loss of a family member or friend to confidence issues. My practice is incredibly diverse in its approach to different topics and issues in our society. Currently, my focus is on my latest work 'Mosaic' which hopes to document people who struggle to have a voice in society.
Mosaic records the lives of different individuals who are dealing with or have dealt with skin conditions that are seen as abnormal. In particular, acne has been associated with a lack of hygiene and care, which has become a huge false stereotype that is simply not true. Through this body of work, I hope to recapture a time where our fixation with beauty had only just started.
Analysing historical paintings and identifying the characteristics that people followed in the 19th century, such as whitening faces to comply with the trend of appearing ‘less fatigued’.
I hope to discover the origin of our journey towards what is supposedly deemed as ‘perfect’, and replicating this in a time where beauty is one of society’s main concerns.
